Following our partnership with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on a music and community day back in January, we are thrilled to be hosting their upcoming Overture Day in London.
If you’re aged 11–14 and Grade 4+ standard on your orchestral instrument, come and join London Philharmonic Orchestra musicians at the free LPO Junior Artists: Overture Day on Tuesday 1 August at St John’s Waterloo.
What to expect
LPO Junior Artists: Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians, get tips on musicianship and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra. In this Overture day we will explore music from Georges Bizet’s remarkable opera, which tells the story of a fiery, passionate and strong woman, Carmen. We will also play some sunny summer music from Brazil!
Where and when
The day will take place at St John’s Waterloo, 73 Waterloo Road, London, SE1 8TY from 10.30am – 5.00pm.
At 4.30pm there will be a performance showcasing the pieces we have explored, which will be open to friends and family.
Who and how to apply
Applications are open to all but priority is given to young musicians whose backgrounds are currently under-represented in professional UK orchestras, who may be eligible for the main LPO Junior Artists programme in the future. You can apply here, via the LPO’s website. The deadline for applications is 9.00am, Monday 26 June 2023. Note that there is no ‘save and return’ function so you will need to complete the applications in full. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the LPO team at juniorartists@lpo.org.uk.
The highlight of the day was the performance in front of the audience. I also liked making friends with other participants, and the musicians were very friendly and helpful – I loved learning from them!
