St John’s Waterloo is an exciting place to be with lots happening within our worship and community work.
Your giving enables all that we do at St John’s Waterloo. Thank you.
How your donation helps
Our recent renovation of St John’s enabled us to transform the building into an accessible and beautiful space for our community. It cost more than £6m. We had to raise all this money ourselves – we didn’t receive any funds from the Church of England.
We were generously supported by our congregation, the Mayor of London, Lambeth Council, the National Community Lottery Fund as well as many trusts, foundations, and individuals. Together, their contributions reached £5 million.
However, to bridge the funding gap, we had to secure loans amounting to over £1 million. We are carefully repaying these loans and managing increased interest rates, but this has brought challenges to our finances, reducing the funds we can allocate to our community work.
Your support will play a crucial role. It will enable us to continue our community projects and maintain the church as an open hub for arts and the community. Thank you for your help!
Regular giving by standing order:
Monthly giving is vital to our worship and mission as it enables us to plan impactful, long-term projects. The Church of England suggests regular giving of 5% of income after tax and NI – less than the 10% biblical tithe, in the hope that you will support other charities too.

How we use the money
It costs around £250,000 a year to keep St John’s open and ‘Here for You’. Thank you to all who are able to support our work.
We are here for anyone and everyone wanting to grow or explore their spirituality, and resources are used for our weekly and daily worship services.
Each Winter we are able to use the crypt space to host people experiencing homelessness. The recent development has greatly improved the space for this.
This is just a taster of all we do at St John’s. For more information, please take a look at the other pages of this website and get in touch if you have any questions.
We also host and support our sister charity The Bridge At Waterloo (TBAW) which carries out a wide range of community projects, including Room for You.
Thank you for your gift.
