Waterloo Festival Evensong with Open Table

Members of our LGBT+ Open Table Network community will join St John’s Community Choir to bring this year’s Waterloo Festival to a celebratory close. A modern reimagining of evensong*, inspired by the daily evensong services held at St John’s Waterloo during the 1951 Festival of Britain.

This service will celebrate both the 75th anniversary of St John’s post-war rebuilding as the Festival of Britain’s Centre of English Church Music, and the inclusive and diverse community that gathers here today.

What is evensong?

Evensong (literally Evening-song), is a meditative service held near twilight that is particularly focused on singing. An ancient tradition, it has a contemporary appeal for those looking to centre themselves at the end of the day and enjoy a rich musical heritage.

Getting to St John’s Waterloo: St John’s Waterloo is accessible by bus, tube or train; the nearest station is Waterloo Station. Parking is available in Exton Street on pay bays, Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 6.30pm & Saturday 8.30am till 1.30pm. Payment must be made by phone or app, details can be found on signs along Exton Street. After 6.30pm (1pm on Saturday) parking is free within the bays and on single yellow lines. There are no disabled bays along Exton Street. Parking is also available in car parks in York Road and Cornwall Road, details for both can be found online.
