Discussion Groups at St John’s Waterloo
The Book Group and Question Time are welcoming, open spaces for anyone who wants to explore faith honestly—especially if you’re questioning, or gently re-thinking beliefs that no longer fit. Rooted in a liberal Christian tradition, we value curiosity over certainty, conversation over conclusions, and questions over answers. Whether you feel close to faith, distant from it, or unsure what you believe at all, you’re invited to bring your doubts, stories, and questions without fear of judgment. This is a place to wonder together, to listen deeply, and to discover that faith can be spacious enough to hold uncertainty, change, and hope. All are welcome.

What are the topics for 2026?
27th January THE BIBLE: Is the Bible meant to be obeyed, interpreted, wrestled with… or questioned?
24th February PRAYER: What can prayer mean or look like in different stages of faith and life?
24th March SIN: Is sin a helpful way to understand human behaviour, or a harmful tool of control?
28th April JESUS: How have different people understood who Jesus is, and how might we come to understand him today?
26th May GOD & GENDER: What changes when we imagine God as female — or beyond gender altogether?
23rd June FORGIVENESS: What does forgiveness mean, and why has it been such a central theme in the Christian faith?
28th July LIVING FAITH: What might it look like to live out faith in everyday life, relationships, and society today?

Who leads Question Time?
The course is led by Rev Georgia Ashwell and Felicity Amberson-Jones. Georgia is curate at St John’s Waterloo and host of the Generous Faith podcast (you can listen here). Felicity is a member of St John’s, previously held the post of Chaplaincy Assistant at Kings College London and now works as a research assistant in the area of Psychosis at Kings, Denmark Hill.

If you can’t make all the sessions, don’t worry. This course is designed for you to be able to join the sessions you can. There are other events, discussion spaces and courses at St John’s throughout the year that you would be welcome to join also. Find our more details here.
