We are currently recruiting a

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

£9k - £10.5k/year  (£30k - £35k pro rata)

10.5 hours per week

St John’s is a vibrant church, beloved community hub and renowned cultural centre on London’s South Bank. More than half way through an exciting £3.8m development project which will truly reflect the church’s role as a spiritual and cultural focus, we a seeking a dynamic and imaginative Development Manager with the drive and initiative needed to help us raise the final £1.8m.  

We have also set up a new charity, The Bridge at Waterloo (TBAW), providing projects in employment, heritage and the arts. 

The successful candidate will work with the Vicar and the Finance & Major Fundraising Committee, focusing on fundraising for the Development Project and TBAW from trusts and foundations and supporting ReIgnite 2021, our local fundraising initiative. 

Hours: 10.5 per week. Attendance at the regular staff meeting on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. would be a requirement. Some Sunday and occasional evening working will also be required.  We are willing to be flexible if alternative arrangements might suit particular applicants.

Job Description

Salary: £30k - £35k pro rata, i.e.  £9k - £10.5k p.a. plus pension contribution

Holiday entitlement: 5 weeks pro rata

Reporting to: The Vicar 

Duties and Responsibilities 

The postholder will enjoy the support and involvement of an engaged, experienced and active Vicar and Finance and Major Fundraising Committee.  We have a fundraising strategy in place. 

With the help of the Vicar, the postholder will: 

  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for the development project and The Bridge at Waterloo
  • Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects and activities for the organization's fundraising priorities
  • Support the ReIgnite 2021 initiative which will be organised and managed by the Finance and Major Fundraising Committee and the congregation
  • Oversee the administration of a donor and funder list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
  • Work with the Communications Officer to develop promotional texts for the sake of encouraging donations to the development project and TBAW

 

Person Specification: 

The Development Manager should demonstrate competence in most or all the following:  

  • Creativity/Innovation: developing new ways to improve the finances of the St John’s development project and to create new opportunities
  • Fundraising: Demonstrable experience of successful fundraising
  • Building Relationships: ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally.
  • Effective communication: Speak, listen and write clearly using appropriate communication tools and techniques, engaging with all stakeholders in the project.
  • Focus on Donor Needs: track-record of anticipating, understanding, and responding to the needs of donors.
  • Teamwork: ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
  • Leadership: excellent influencing skills
  • Decision making: ability to assess and judge risks, and take clear decisions.
  • Organisation: good time management and prioritization skills,  .
  • Commitment: Sympathy with the aims and objectives of St John's Waterloo and The Bridge at Waterloo.
