Reignite - Building a home for all our futures
St John’s Waterloo is a landmark building in the heart of central London, home to an orchestra, a festival, employment courses and a host of climate-change activities.
YOUR WINDOW ON WATERLOO
As part of our larger restoration project, Reignite, we're repacing the 810 small panes of glass that make up the 10 large arched windows of St John's Waterloo. If St John's and Waterloo means soemthing to you, even if you just enjoy passing this great London landmark on the bus, please consider making a £12 donation and having a new windowpane recorded as a gift in your name or in the name of someone special to you.
St John's has been here since 1824. After restoration, it will be here for hundereds of years to come. We'd like you to be part of that history.

The renovation, by award-winning architect Eric Parry, will provide a pioneering, environmentally sustainable crypt, performance space and church. The upgraded St John’s will offer more support for the local community and for people in need, with well-being programmes, employment training and a better foodbank as well as art exhibitions and a calendar of concerts and events. All in the setting of our wrap-around community garden, a leafy green sanctuary in the heart of central London.
Will you join us, by giving towards our final round of funding? Every donation is carefully recorded and brings you into this story of transformation.
St John’s has served the people of Waterloo since 1824, when it opened in what was a deprived area on the south Bank of the Thames. During World War II its crypt served as an air raid shelter. The artist Hans Feibusch, a refugee from Germany, painted the murals at the altar. In the 1990s, St John’s helped the many homeless people in and around Cardboard City. In 1951, it was restored as the Festival of Britain church, welcoming denominations from all over Britain and the Commonwealth.
Today the church desperately needs redeveloping so that its inclusive spirit can continue to help people, regardless of their background. Our ambition is to renovate the building by 2021, in time for the 70th anniversary of the Festival of Britain.
