Here for Work

Employment and Resilience Courses

St John’s Waterloo's partner organisation, the Bridge at Waterloo, is running Here for Work employability and resilience courses to help get local people into jobs. The one-day courses are tailored to the different needs and circumstances of the individuals on each course. But students can expect to cover: where to look for jobs, what salaries to aim for, interview techniques, time-management, the importance of professionalism and conflict resolution in the workplace.

Course leader Daniel Gregory said: “We’re here to help local people struggling to find work in this post-Covid world. Job-searching and making applications starts on the course. At the end of the day you’ll be heading off with a CV, a positive attitude and interviews to go to. And because we have good contacts with local employers, 95% of our graduates get jobs – in construction, retail sales, hospitality, childcare and other sectors.”

Here for Work is about more than getting people jobs though. Daniel explained: “The course is only the beginning. We match people with mentors and we stick with them for the long run. Whatever challenges life and work puts in their path, we’re here for them.”
