The Revd Georgia Ashwell

Georgia joined St John’s in June 2022. She grew up in Crystal Palace, moved to Dorset and spent her teenage years learning water sports, benefitting from a really good youth club and meeting her future husband, Stephen, a freelance film director. Moving back to London, Georgia worked for a short while in Debenhams on Oxford Street before finding more satisfaction in Administration for All Saints Peckham: “Everything from taking bookings to finding a donkey for the carol service – but it taught me that Admin is a wonderful role. There’s something deeply valuable in keeping everything running well.” There followed a role at Fair Trade, then at People Tree, the Fair Trade fashion company, before Georgia decided to train to be a parish priest on a course that involved both theological study and practical parish work.

Georgia has spent many happy evenings socialising on the South Bank but it never occurred to her that she would one day be curate of its parish church. As Pioneer Curate, one of Georgia’s roles will be to explore faith and God in creative outlets and to build trust and community with those who may not previously have felt that St John’s had anything to offer them
