Welcome to the first edition of our Reignite newsletter. The purpose is simple: to keep you informed about the imminent renovation of St John’s Waterloo. We’re reigniting this much-loved London landmark, the base of Waterloo Festival, Southbank Sinfonia and The Bridge at Waterloo. And we hope to do it by 2021.
Our Bridge to Employment course has already changed the lives of many. We support homeless people, provide a welcoming base for many arts organisations and charities, and have a vision for a better future for all. But our building is not fit for purpose and we need to bring it into the 21st century.
As we enter the final phase of a campaign our mission is clear. We’ve raised £3 million so far. The total cost is £5 million. We need the final £2 million by summer 2020 to invest in arts, community and environment for all.
The renovation will provide a pioneering, environmentally sustainable crypt and performance space and church where all can flourish. The upgraded St John’s will offer more support for people in need, well-being programmes, employment training, art exhibitions and an exciting calendar of concerts and events. All in the setting of our wrap-around community garden, a leafy green sanctuary in the heart of central London.
I invite you to take part in the Reignite story. This newsletter will unwrap the project, edition by edition. We are about to take flight—will you join us, by giving towards our final round of funding? Every donation is carefully recorded and brings you into this story of transformation. Join our campaign.
With blessings at Christmas,
Canon Giles Goddard
