The church will offer its facilities to protestors throughout the weeks of action. Canon Giles Goddard, vicar of St John’s Waterloo and co-founder of Faith For The Climate, the interfaith environmental action group, said: “St John’s is delighted to open its doors, as we have been fully engaged in alerting people to the dangers of climate change for many years.”

Our recent sermons on the climate crisis are here

We are called to care for the earth and for our descendants. Jesus tells us that the Sabbath is made for humans, not humans for the Sabbath - and the students' global actions, and XR's witness - and their thoughtful and careful approach - is vital for our time.

“We have forgotten who we are,” said Archbishop Rowan Williams, and the earth is suffering. We have, urgently, to do what we can to bring about change. In a small way St John’s is trying to be part of the change.

XR is an anarchist group that wants to bring about communism through the guise of climate change. It’s disappointing to see the church supporting this, ultimately you will reap what you sow and communism has never been a good friend to religion.
